Near the Leopold Gate, the main entrance into the New Fortress, the Statue of the Stone Maiden can be found. This mysterious sculpture is one of the characteristic symbols of Komárno. The statue is accompanied with a writing that says “Nec arte, nec marte”, meaning “Nor with trick, neither with strength”. The statue was built in the 19th century and has since been restored numerous times. The original piece is displayed in the Danube Region Museum.
